March 11, 2016 Sunset Drive

We start this afternoon drive with Brent Leo-Smith with Wium Dornbrack on camera.

  • (2016/03/11 16:01) Very fresh lion tracks which lead right up to the Styx Pride of Lions, on a buffalo kill. One is up eating, two are sleeping. They are on the Southern boundary, Gowrie main road, which is the border to our allowed viewing area. The lioness that is feeding at the start walks from the kill towards the vehicle for a great view and then lays down in the road near the vehicle.

    • Brent assures us that Karula's den in about two kilometers, or a little more then a mile, away he points its location in the distance.

    • He moves away from the lions to put all the rain gear on them and the equipment and while he does that we go to Jamie.

Good afternoon from Jamie Paterson on the other vehicle, with Bryan Joubert on camera.

    • (2016/03/11 16:10) Giraffe.
    • (2016/03/11 16:17) Troop of Vervet monkeys.

    Brent,

    • (2016/03/11 16:25) Still with the "flat cat" lions.

    Brent,

    • (2016/03/11 16:37) Shows us the possibly pregnant belly and nipples of the lioness, she has engorged nipples not sure if has cubs already or is still pregnant. Then he leaves the sighting since the lions are sleeping.

    Jamie,

    Jamie,

    • (2016/03/11 17:01) Dung beetle with ball of dung, another near by that flies off.

    Brent,
    • (2016/03/11 17:22) Brent collects his camera trap.
    • (2016/03/11 17:23) James Hendry Pulls up in a safari vehicle, very wet, and gives us some great advise. "When your underpants become wet, it is then time to head home." (Video below)
    • (2016/03/11 17:24) Brent then tells us there is too much rain coming down and it will only get worse so they have to shorten the drive, he says the rainy day good byes in the video below.
