Good
early morning from Brent Leo-Smith with Wium Dornbrack. (First we started with
tech loop for a few seconds then Brent pops up, and he tells us Jamie is having
Gremlin issues. Lions are roaring all over the place around Djuma this morning
and last night. He is listening for where the calls are coming from since when
they were heard he was still in the camp.
Beautiful
purple and pink sky, with the sounds of early morning pre-sunrise.
He
starts driving around and the signal gets a bit shaky, as he uses his spotlight
to find animals. @05.41 we go to tech loop then come back for a minute with
Brent and a slimy looking thick snake like creature. He is testing us as he
loses signal. I am not sure what it is but not a snake. Skink maybe like the
one Jamie mentioned the other drive.?.

Good
morning from
Jamie Paterson, who has signal for the moment and Dave Eastaugh on camera. She
says the signal issues are very bad today, but the techs are working as fast as
they can to figure it out, and exterminate all the gremlins! She plans
on staying right in the Quarantine area so she doesn’t lose signal, since Brent
has absolutely none now.
Jamie
shows us the destructive path an elephant took to get to long fresh green
grass. The fence he trampled encloses Yuri, the land owner's, garden. He was
just trying to eat this is not necessarily a bad behavior this was the animal's
land first, and land owners all over South Africa expect, but don’t have to like,
this happening.
- More evidence in the way of DUNG. She is following the elephant's path. It was the large ellie bull with the hole in his ear. I call him Pirate the ellie bull with his pierced ear and rebel attitude.
- (2016/03/19 06:00)Yes it was a Giant legless skink. Which is a legless burrowing skink, related to lizards.
Quarantine list of animals and all things safari
2. (2016/03/20 06:04) Purple roller.
Jamie comes up with the idea of a
contest of sorts for her to find as many things as they can in just the quarantine
area. Which is why I went back and
started the list above.
3. (2016/03/20 06:08) Turtle dove
4.
(2016/03/20 06:14) Termites and new
mound.
5.
(2016/03/19 06:19) Hoof tracks of a trotting
herd of Zebra
6.
(2016/03/19 06:27) Little bee-eaters She shows
us in her book the different types of bee-eaters they get there.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
(2016/03/19 06:31) He tells us the lions he was
tracking crossed south out of our boundary area, then loses signal again, so we
go back to Jamie.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Jamie,
As Dave fixes something on the vehicle she tells us a story from her childhood.
As Dave fixes something on the vehicle she tells us a story from her childhood.
7. (2016/03/20 06:37) Dave zooms in on
a bird in the top of a tree but she doesn't mention it. We don't get a great
view of it anyway.
8. (2016/03/20 06:42) Red-billed hornbill
feeding on termites on a large mound.
9. (2016/03/20 06:43) A Crested francolin
attacks the hornbill to scare him off but he comes back and we watch him for a
bit.
10. (2016/03/20 06:48)Baby squirrel.
- (2016/03/20 06:50) She talks about the big five for a new viewer, a term which is no longer used. The 5 most dangerous animals to hunt, Elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, and buffalo. The she gives a short explanation of why WildEarth does not allow any Rhino sightings mentioned or shown on the drives or their live cams. As a stand against the Rhino poaching that is so horrible in South Africa.
She leaves Quarantine so I guess that ends her little contest at #10 things she showed us.
- (2016/03/20 06:57) Hyena den but no one is home
- Jamie talks about Karula and her cubs and the zoned area. She has moved south of our boundary.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Brent,
- (2016/03/20 07:01) Brent is back out away from the mechanics and techs for a 2nd time to see if the signal issues are fixed this time. So far so good this is the first time we haven’t had a broken sentence from Brent in the first minute he was on.
- (2016/03/20 07:03) Huge beautiful kudu bull
- (2016/03/20 07:05) Lioness tracks. Taxon said the lioness came into our area then back out.
- (2016/03/20 07:11) Brent trying to guide Wium to a bird in a thick bush then a millipede or snake in there too. I never saw either.
- (2016/03/20 07:13) White-browed scrub robin.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

(2016/03/20 07:53) Baby ellie trying to
