March 21, 2016 Sunset Drive

Gross!! What a shot! We start the drive zoomed in on the chewed face of a female buffalo carcass.  Jamie Paterson at the buffalo kill of the Birmingham boy coalition, and Wium Dornbrack on camera. One of them is right next to the carcass.  She tell us all five are there laying in different areas for shade.  They have another School class which is wonderful I bet that grossed them out.
We stay with this first lion called Scapper for awhile. He seems over heated and Jamie discusses why. He also is very skinny with spine and hip bones sticking out and a swollen left eye. Jamie is convinced he was recovering from an injury and that is why he looks in such bad condition, but she is sure he will improve now that he has a good meal and is with his coalition.
All five of them are here although we are only able to see three since they are spread out sleeping in different shady areas.

Brent,

We go to Brent to say good afternoon, he has Dave Eastaugh on camera today.

(2016/03/21 16:11) He is with a large breeding herd of cape or African buffalo 300 or so.
He moves the vehicle loops around to the front of the herd so they will graze past him hopefully

Jamie,
(2016/03/21 16:17) She is going to have to leave the lion sighting so she gives us one last look at Scrapper.

``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Brent ,
(2016/03/21 16:18) 10.18 With the buffalo
(2016/03/21 16:24) Brent says good bye to the class
(2016/03/21 16:31) He decides to move on from the buffalo herd.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

Jamie,
(2016/03/21 16:34) A bird of prey on a termite mound she is trying to determine which eagle it is, she thinks Steppe eagle.
(2016/03/21 16:37) Another bird of prey, in a tree, this one she thinks is a brown snake eagle.
She is on her way to Arathusa dam.
(2016/03/21 16:39) A very broken wood structure.. No clue what when where or why. She blames the damage on wood gremlins.
(2016/03/21 16:40) WOW! Look at Arathusa dam
(2016/03/21 16:41) Wium with the great camera zoom, gives us a view of the impala on the other side of the dam as Jamie talks to viewers.

`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
Brent,
(2016/03/21 16:43) Elephants  he says the female is not comfortable with their presence so we wont be following them. A lot of things musth bull can cause that.
(2016/03/21 16:50) One young ellie almost touches the vehicle Brent tells him no but it's cute he is just curious not even big enough to be a rebel.
(2016/03/21 16:51) He leaves the elephants.
(2016/03/21 17:01) He finds a few buffalo bachelors taking a rest to chew their cud in a mud wallow.
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````

Jamie,
(2016/03/21 17:04) Is on her way to tree house dam and other various waterholes.
(2016/03/21 17:05) serrated hinged terrapin
(2016/03/21 17:07) A water or nile monitor in the water. He catches something, probably a frog, but we can't see what it was.
(2016/03/21 17:14) A lapwing bird track in the mud.
(2016/03/21 17:21) We look at the amazing clouds. Then we see the water monitor closer up.

Brent,
(2016/03/21 17:28) kudu
He is back near Galago and Vuyatela camps. He tells us that the report they got earlier was incorrect that the Nkuhuma were with the Birmingham boys so he now thinks maybe the Nkuhuma pride is around here so he is looking for tracks and listening for alarm calls.

(2016/03/21 17:30) Woodland kingfisher
(2016/03/21 17:32) African violet flower.
(2016/03/21 17:38) He shows us on his new digital toy the skull of a spotted hyena as he describes the difference between them and lions.

Jamie,
(2016/03/21 17:44) Jamie sees a flock of Bee-eaters flying above; it's a fairly large flock starting to gather because the migration is getting close to starting.
(2016/03/21 17:47) Impala females being chased by the rams.

Brent,
(2016/03/21 17:49) Brent is with a group of Nyala. We get to see a couple of the bulls jump the fence into the camp area. A couple other younger bulls consider jumping but never get their nerve up. Then the whole herd comes up to the fence and considers jumping but again they get to scared and eventually wander back off away from the fence.
(2016/03/21 18:00) A pale morph Wahlberg's eagle in a tree and I tried to get a couple shots of him flying off.
(2016/03/21 18:03) A large impala herd with some three young zebra stallions with them.  The wind is making the impala skittish and some of them run, then a ram chases a female.

Jamie,
(2016/03/21 18:07) At the hyena den but it seems it's too windy out for the cubs to be out and no adults laying around either.
She tells us the holey eared naughty elephant bull is nearby and she had to go around him earlier giving him a wide berth, apparently he doesn’t mind vehicles driving past him but if they stop he starts his non-sense.
She also tells us that lighting is dangerous is so many ways to them in these vehicles so if it gets worse they may need to go in for shelter.
(2016/03/21 18:11) LOL Jamie hears an elephant somewhere turns her head to look around and Wium tell her its right ahead of them.

Brent,
(2016/03/21 18:16) He is still with the Impala and Zebra in Quarantine clearing.  Then leaves to go investigate some alarm calls.
(2016/03/21 18:17) He stops to show us the difference in the book between rock and monitor lizards that Jamie asked him to show us earlier.
He now has his spotlight out and is searching.
(2016/03/21 18:22) A tiny terrapin in the reddish colored water.
(2016/03/21 18:41) A different terrapin this one bigger then the last hunting under water.
(2016/03/21 18:44) Bush Baby
(016/03/21 18:47) He tells us that Nikki Austin and Scott Dyson are watching and have tweeted that they miss us all.

Brent says good night to us.

(2016/03/21 18:58) A twin spotted ground beetle.

 Jamie says good night.

End of Drive.
