Hello Safarians! The little gremlins have attacked! We
will be heading out for Drive as soon as we can :) #SafariLive. A tweet from WildEarth at Drive time to keep us updated on
the delay with the start of drive.
- (2016/03/12 16:08) We are live We are live. With a short update one why the drive is delayed from James.
James Hendry starts
the Drive at 16.47 with David Eastaugh
on camera. Reminding us that "windy" the other vehicle is down and
that the mechanics and techs are working hard to get her up and running. Therefore
we will have the honor of James Hendry as our only presenter today.
- (2016/03/12 16:47) James comes on and tells us the story of where he found and apparently also lost the immobilizer for "Rusty" the vehicle. As he is explaining we see a beautiful Nyala bull walking across quarantine clearing.
- (2016/03/12 16:53) Elephant herd.
- (2016/03/12 17:10) Baby Impala and Mom.
- Shadow defiantly has cubs and has a den.
- Karula and cubs are ok she has moved them again away from the main road.
- Kwatile female leopard is assumed dead she looked very bad and had three cubs they believe her to have been bitten by a snake and died but it is not for sure.
- (2016/03/12 17:21) Brown snake eagle flying landing and then sitting in a tree.
- (2016/03/12 17:41) Grassvelt or African Pipit on Arathusa airstrip.
- (2016/03/12 17:45) Black Stork.
- (2016/03/12 17:52) Got word on the game drive radio that Tingana, male leopard has been found, on Djuma, so we are in Ferrari safari mode to get to the sighting, which means, we are no longer going wait on Arathusa to see the Styx pride.
- (2016/03/12 18:09) Radio call telling us that Tingana has left our viewing area.
- (2016/03/12 18:10) SIGHTING of a cameraman, field doctor, and a fly!! James has to stop the vehicle to remove a fly from his eye. Thank you David! For performing the flyectomy.
- (2016/03/12 18:11) Impala and waterbuck in same shot. No clear screenshots though.
- (2016/03/12 18:12) Zebra, we pass by them because now we are in a rush to get to the Hyena den before dark!
- (2016/03/12 18:14) short stop to see some Nyala.
- (2016/03/12 18:15) Ground hornbill in a tree then, another flies by and now he is not a loner anymore.
- (2016/03/12 18:21) James tries to take a short cut to the den and gets lost in the bush. Opps! So sad we are using up daylight, but keep in mind I am a hyena lover.
- (2016/03/12 18:24)We finally arrive at the den and NO ONE is home DARN IT!! Then James sees one on the other side of the mound so he re-positions the vehicle.
- (2016/03/12 18:25) Hyenas at last. I believe the first hyena we see is Scarback, June's mom but as usual lately I can't get clear pics and with bad pictures the identifying takes too long, however I am guessing other people will ID them on twitter. Next we see Madam with one of the j-twins watching Scarback leave, then she leaves as well leaving June and the J-twins behind. We get to see the cubs play and explore for a bit before it gets to dark.
- (2016/03/12 18:44) We hear bubbling kassina at first I had no idea what that was so I looked it up, it's a frog!!
- (2016/03/12 18:48) We see get black screen then tech loop black James drives away from Djuma pan.
- (2016/03/12 18:51) Signal and James return with s shot of the moon.
He reminds us that in the next 24 hours,
the TIME changes is some places in North America, which is going to affect the
drive times for most people. Our time changes their drive times DO NOT!! http://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/usa-canada-start-dst-2016.html
- (2016/03/12 18:53) We see a couple of giraffe with the washed light of the vehicle.
Then James says his nightly
goodbyes
End of Drive.
