March 16, 2016 Sunrise Drive

My Drive photo album
Welcome and good morning from James Hendry with Dave Eastaugh on camera. Since were such good boys and girls and got up early or stayed up late to watch "SafariLive" Live he has a surprise for us, **drum roll**. He turns of the lights and what do we see? The Nkuhuma pride of lioness!! Woo Hoo! Right in front of his vehicle one lioness is sleeping, there are three others around close by as well, and one of them is off mating with the Birmingham boy coalition. It is still very dark but with the vehicles light we can see them as James chats with viewers. They are smack dab in the middle of Djuma game reserve on Quarantine clearing. James tells us that Jamie Paterson is on the other vehicle however she is filming promotional footage for WildEarth so we are blessed with James' voice for the entire drive.

(2016/03/16 05:36) Two lioness are playing and sharpening claws.

  • (2016/03/16 05:43)  One lioness is up and stalking some wildebeests but they see her so she will probably not get a kill. Two of the others are in position to help if needed.

Video clips of the lionesses stalking.

  • (2016/03/16 05:58) Lioness takes a chance slowly walks in towards the wildebeest and runs after them we follow great video a little shaky with James in Ferrari safari mode.

  • (2016/03/16 06:45) We are leaving the lions since they have now lain down to sleep for the day.
  • (2016/03/12 06:58) Stop to listen to birds and shows them in a book, we don’t see the birds. Stierling's Wren-Warbler and a Crested Barbet
  • (2016/03/12 07:02) Baboons tail flower
  • (2016/03/12 07:04) No hyena home at the Aubrey's road den.  So James says he will check some of the other dens in case they moved.

  • (2016/03/12 07:08) Just driving down the road James sees a hyena and drives in to the area and it looks like they have moved to a new mound. We see one adult which is Madam lying in front of the new or maybe temporary home. There are also two cubs lying just outside an opening the mound. It is the December twins. It is not a very long sighting we see some cuteness of the cubs then madam gets up and leaves and the cubs go into the den.

  • (2016/03/12 07:13) The two December twins go back in the den so we leave.
